Comment by: Josh aka rude bwoy Date: 2009-01-23 Comment: It's funny, I've been on this site and a fan of this site for ages and when I heard this sample of this riddim the first thing I thought was "this is not the mean riddim." this is the "I know the score riddim. That distinct high pitch melody gives it away but there are similarities between this and the Mean girl riddim. I guess it's fair to say that the I know the score riddim was based from the mean girl riddim. This riddim is nice regardless.
Comment by: Dwight aka Dr. B Date: 2008-04-21 Comment: Sil C see yours of 23/10/06, what you fail to realise this is the up todate version of the original mean girl by Larry Marshall, and I don't expect a chune made 20 years ago to have the same chords as today.Coxsone Dodds studio is completely different to Jammys studio, therefore King Jammys throughout the 80's was versioning old chunes during the digital era.

Comment by: jm Date: 2006-10-29 Comment: yes, this is not the mean girl riddim that plays, this is the score riddim which is different. the structure of the chords is different. after they sing 'i need a roof' the 2 chords change then go back but on the score riddim it stays the same 2 chords throughout. the basslines are the same but if u get the pitches and tempo matched and play one over the other, u notice the difference.
well done for ' :) ' for asking that question, i hope that answers it.
although the riddims are similar i think u shud get a loop of sizzla - babylon a listen on here.

Comment by: SiLC Date: 2006-10-23 Comment: I still consider this riddim one of the creamiest of all riddims. The FP is deh pon with the score and Sanchez has two wikid chunez deh pon. The Instrumental posted though sounds more to chunez done by Sizzla-Babylon A Listen and Luchi's, Sweep Ova my soul."
Comment by: Sekurudread Date: 2006-09-22 Comment: I Know The Score = Mean Girl? Is this the same?
As DJ SilC says, this is the jammys riddim behind I Know The Score.

Comment by: Date: 2006-08-28 Comment: In the mid 70's Channel One's HooKim brothers and Bunny Lee covered lots of Studio One and Treasure Isle riddims in the "rockers" style. Sugar Minott persuaded Coxsone to let him use the original riddims since they were his anyway. So Sugar's I Need A Roof is a cover to the Diamonds version of Larry Marshall's original. Jamaican music...
(Sugar Minott was, by the way, together with Johnny Clarke, one of the originators of modern style dancehall, ie. singing or toasting over versions, in stead of using backing musicians)
