Talked earlier about the lack of solid one drops, and along with Captain, this was he other exception. Riddim called Jah Army and is a recut Black Uhurus/Sly&Robbies General Penitentary. A Ghetto Youths production which is the Marley clan. A version from Stephen Marley (my favorite Marley kid) so I’d guess he’s the main man behind this riddim.
All version are good (there is really no way to fail on a riddim like this) with Tarrus Eye Water and Cures ultra heavy Look Both Ways being the standouts. But this Spragga Benz isn’t too bad either!
The success with Welcome To Jamrock, which also was a recut of a Sly&Robbie roots riddim (Ini Kamoze - World A Reggae), probably made it clear that recycling old S&C riddims is a good idea. Alborosies success shows the same thing,. Although I’m not sure his tunes are actual recuts, it’s a very distinct S&R roots feel to them. All you youths that like this sound should check out Uhurus Red and Sensimilla albums and the early Ini Kamoze albums. Thats the original, same vibe as this. Powerful music.
Another one drop that nearly made it in to this summary is the Skateland Killer riddim. HUGE with the traditionalists ova deh so at deh Blood&Fire forum… :). http://www.bloodandfire.co.uk/db/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=40483&start=45
