Also known as: Duck
Prototype Jammys digi riddim.
Really, it's strange that Jammy was able to produce as much good material as he did in the mid to late 80-ies as there was no competition to spar really. Think about how it is these days! At least 20 producers that can come up with a number one tune, and seldom a producer has more than 1 or 2 tunes in the top 20. When this tune was released Jammy had usually about 10 of the top 20 tunes. And I would say that that was more about lack of competion…
Jammy ruled the chart for years until Gussie Clark released Isaacs Rumors and with that put an end to the digi era overnight (and put Jammy in the backseat where he has remained since).
I think the release of Rumors was at least as distinct change in the direction of JA music as Sleng Teng was, with the difference that no one was really able to compete with Gussie at the time because Gussie was the only one with a studio the could produce this new Hi-Tech sound, so the products on the market was still limited to Gussies product, whereas with Sleng Teng, most producers could start building digi riddims right away, and as I have mentioned elsewhere, some (like Prince Jazzbo) was already building digi riddims before Sleng Teng.
The name of the riddim is derived from Admiral Baleys hit Duck Dance. Admiral Baily who makes a hit daily was the hottest thing in the late eaghites and his Duck Dance on a Jammy riddim (to be called Duck) was a huge hit. Later followed by legendary singer Leroy Gibbon's cutting Magic Moment in the same riddim. Many producers have cut Duck versions, but the original is indeed difficult to top.
There are interesting stories to both of these artists. I'll get to that some day, but for now I'll just say that Leroy more or less stopped recording right after his fenomenal Jammy CD (well, it's a matter of taste in music, but there are people considering it a classic), while our friend the Admiral still record occationally. He still has the voice, the timing and the sense of what a good hook is, but his style is to unfashionable these days to allow any daily hits.

cat paw is different from kuff
example of cat paw is wear yu size - lt. stichie
Comment by: Smokey Date: 2006-09-13 Comment: relick of fade away? never heard, maybe...but magic moment is definetly on the kuff riddim (bam bam) ls with shelly hunder's kuff, bailey's jump off etc.
and the cat paw sounds markedly different.
Comment by: Warlord Date: 2006-09-10 Comment: Indeed, Leroy Gibbons tune is not on the duck, but not on kuff either! The kuff riddem is a digital update of none other than Junior Byles "fade away"."Magic moment" is on the cat paw, sometimes called, "bam bam" riddem (Tiger).
Comment by: Crucial P Date: 2006-07-20 Comment: Leroy Gibbon's "Magic Moment" is NOT on the Duck Riddim!
It was cut pon de "Kuff/Bam Bam"!
