Sick / Agony / Big Belly Man
Pupa Vlado helped me identify this riddim. His words:
"...the riddim is "Big Belly Man" by Amiral Bailey, Jammys afaik.
If you put the two last notes of the
bass line the other way round, you'll have a Sleng Teng."
"...There are 2 riddim albums:
- "D. J. Confrontation", 1987, Live & Leaarrn, which includes the original
as well as other cuts
by Stichie, Little Twitch, Major Worries, Tulloch T, Shabba and others
- "Computer Seh So", 1987, Waterhouse witthh
a reply by Lady June called "Slim Belly Man", and other tracks ny J.
Osbourne, Thriller U,
Little John, Phantom, ...
I know 2 more answers on this riddim, both called "Slim Belly Man", one
by Tonto Irie,
and one by Mickey White...".
Also answers, but not on this riddim are "Slim Belly Man" (oh yes, you guessed it) by
Peter Metro and "Big Batty Girl" by Flourgon. The Metro tune is the title track of the
"Slim Belly Man" (V.A.) album, can't identify this riddim.
Pupa Vlado"
As with Babatunde Advocate corrected me, pointing out that "also agony/big belly man is not the name its called the "sick riddim"". Thanks!
Dean Davis also ask for this riddim: "where is the SICK RIDDIM (Down in Jamaica (Red Fox & Naturlee)) It's one of the wickedest dubplate riddims ever!". David wrote in teh guestbook as well: "Westmoreland Sensimillia by Burro Banton, and the name of the riddim is called the Sick riddim/iam looking for tracks on this riddim.let me know". Oliver Kehnen even says "A few often versioned riddims i´ve been missing [...] Digital: Sick (not sure if its not the same as Agony)". So now you know, it was there all the time...
Westmorland De Sensi come from... 100 Weight Of Collies weed coming from St: Anns, St: Anns... Kiki from Orange Hill..
Anyway, for versions check the magnificent www.reggae-riddims.com. For some reason my good friend Vlado has choosen to list Big Belly Man as one riddim and Westmorland as another one. Probably there is some twist to westmorland that only he can hear that differentiates it from Sick :). For the rest of us Sick, Agony, Big Belly Man and Westmorland Sensi are the same riddim. Memba dat.
